1. bou•gie
adj. /ˈbo͞ojē/  /-ZHē/
Aspiring to be a higher class than one is. Bougie (pronounced boo’-she) is a hacked truncation of the word Bourgeoisie, which refers to the middle-class in Europe, but refers to a more affluent class level in the United States.
While the above definition of bougie is what you’re probably the most familiar with, I see the bougie life as the pursuit of the fabulous, about wanting to be something greater than you are- more beautiful inside and out. I see it as a desire to live a glamorous life even if some days that might just mean putting the takeout on a real plate before you eat it. I believe that as a society and especially during these difficult times, this art of savoring good food, good drinks, good fashion, and good company has been lost and forgotten. Sure, this may mean feasting on cold pizza for the next week or two, but I’d like to think that these few moments of pure extravagance- the velvety feel of handcrafted leather from a great bag, the taste of succulent duck confit on perfectly crisped flatbread, or the warm buzz which you’re not quite sure came from the now-empty glasses of Moscato d’Asti or simply from the full, hearty laughs of a conversation with a good friend- make it all worthwhile.
Yes, bougie may have a silly, almost negative connotation attached to it at times, but the way I see it, living life one bougie night to the next makes it all the more worth living.
